TOP TIP: Place brisket in a casserole pot or slow cooker with carrots, potatoes, 2 x clove garlic whole, shallots, barley, large glass red wine, 250 ml of beef stock and cook for 3 hours on a low heat. (Longer in a slow cooker; just put it on low in the morning and when you return home it will be cooked)
